Acupuncture Basics
Because everyone’s body and health rhythms are unique, treatment plans vary. For acute, recent issues, you might notice significant relief within 3 to 6 sessions. For chronic or long-standing conditions, it may take a few weeks of regular, consistent treatments to create lasting changes. Once your health goals are met, many patients transition to a monthly "maintenance" schedule to keep their body balanced and prevent future issues.
Most patients are pleasantly surprised by how relaxing acupuncture actually is! Acupuncture needles are incredibly thin—about the width of a strand of hair—and are entirely different from the thick, hollow needles used for injections or blood draws. While you might feel a brief, mild sensation like a tiny pinch or a dull, heavy tingle when the needle reaches the correct point, many patients feel so relaxed during the session that they fall asleep.
Your initial visit is a comprehensive look at your overall well-being. We will sit down together to discuss your medical history, current health goals, lifestyle, and unique symptom patterns. After a gentle evaluation (which may include looking at your tongue and checking your pulse), you will receive a custom-tailored acupuncture treatment. This first session typically lasts about 75 to 90 minutes, while follow-up appointments are usually 60 minutes.
Think of them as different instruments playing in the same orchestra!
Acupuncture uses fine needles to stimulate specific points and balance the body's internal energy flow.
Fire Cupping uses glass cups to create a gentle vacuum on the skin, which pulls fresh blood flow into tight muscles, breaks up tension, and speeds up structural healing.
Moxibustion involves warming acupuncture points using a glowing bundle of a dried herb called mugwort. It delivers a deeply comforting, penetrating heat that is exceptional for chronic, cold aches and boosting immune vitality.
To get the most out of your treatment, we recommend following these simple guidelines:
Eat a light meal: Avoid coming on an empty stomach or right after a heavy feast. Having a small snack an hour or two before is ideal.
Wear loose clothing: Comfortable clothes that can easily roll up past your elbows and knees make it easy to access primary acupuncture points.
Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water before and after your session, and try to limit heavy caffeine or alcohol intake on the day of your visit.
